Sermo

Sermo focused on the potential of social media on healthcare with arguably one of the largest online community of physicians with over 200,000 licensed and verified doctors. Sermo’s goal was to facilitate collaboration in medicine to enhance healthcare delivery. The video provides some context of the value of such networks to physicians.

Doximity

Sermo is by no means unique in terms of physician networks. There’s doximity--another large medical network that boasts 1 in 3 US Physicians as members. It was founded by Jeff Tangney--who had earlier co-founded Epocrates --in 2011 and is based in San Mateo, California in Silicon Valley. Interestingly, it is working with Cleveland Clinic to replace classroom with smartphones for continuing medical education. Dr Farris Timimi, Medical Director at Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media has a presentation comparing Doximity and Sermo that provides useful points of differences.

Ding Xiang Yuan

The Chinese version of the physician network is called DXY (the Chinese name is Lilac Garden)--where physicians interact to gain insights from colleagues and discuss new clinical findings. It is reported to have more than 3.2 million physicians as members. Those interested, please access the website through Google Translate (dxy.cn; dxy.com).
